Interview Questions for Hiring a Slate Captain

Slate Basics:

  • What is a configurable join?
  • What is your favorite thing youโ€™ve ever created in Slate?
  • Which Knowledge Base articles are absolute musts to bookmark?

Strengths/Weakness:

  • What is your level of experience with sql?
  • What are some challenges/projects they you to face in the past and how did you implement a solution?
  • Whatโ€™s the most complex problem you solved in the past year? What was challenging about this particular problem? What did you enjoy most about the problem-solving process?
  • Which tool do you struggle the most with/would like to learn more about?
  • What would you identify as their Slate blind-spot?

Future Slate:

  • Which new feature release from the past year have they been most excited about?ย 
  • Which Slate Feedback request post are they watching the closest with fingers crossed in hopes that Technolutions will complete it sooner rather than later?
  • Whatโ€™s on your Slate Bucket List and how would you make it happen with current functionality?

Tell me about a time:

  • Tell me about a particular process that you went through several iterations.
  • Tell me about a time when you had a to troubleshoot a live portal and how you resolved the issue.
  • Tell me about a time you said no to a project request, why you said no and how you worked with the stakeholder to meet their needs.
  • Please give an example of a previous CRM project that didnโ€™t go well. How could you ensure that would not happen again?

Tasks:

  • Weโ€™ve given folks spreadsheets of fake data and asked them to present to us how to answer a set of questions as if we were a staff member who needed to understand the data and be enabled to pull it on their own next time.
  • Take this <CSS, SQL, Liquid markup, etc> and tell me what it does. Are there any mistakes in it?
  • We have provisioned Clean Slate, which includes fake data. Build a CJ query that returns XYZ.

Others:

  • Do you like puzzles and adventuring in to solutions?
  • What tools and processes do you like to use for documentation purposes? What is your previous experience generating documentation?
  • How do you balance longer term projects and cyclical work with shorter term tickets and immediate tasks?
  • Pretend I have never played Tic-Tac-Toe (or another common game). Explain the game to me, including possible strategies and outcomes.
