๐ฎBulk Deleting Data from SSO Username Field
In the event you realize you need to clear out the data from the SSO Username field for a batch of records, you have to delete the data in an unconventional way.ย
The SSO Username field is not available in the Retention Policy Editor as of today (9/2025) and cannot be cleared using Batch Management.
Instead, you'll need to use Upload Dataset, as pointed out by Johnny Grimmer earlier this year.
- Export your affected records with a unique identifier column and a blank "SSO Username" column
- Import the file back into Slate's Upload Dataset, making sure you mark "Unsafe" and "Update Only"
- On Build Import, map your unique identifier field and the blank SSO username column (with blank values) to the Slate User Login Override field, and check the "enable custom null handling" box.
ย - Run the import.
This will replace the current value in the SSO username field on the person record with a null value.
This is helpful if you realize you put the wrong data in this field, or if you realized your institution's Active Directory system is re-assigning usernames for students who never came but still have their SSO username field populated in your Slate instance, and you need to clear those old record's data out.
